In most cases, no. Dealerships handle registration paperwork for you, providing temporary registration papers and plates. Your permanent registration should arrive by mail within weeks.
Before completing the sale, ensure the seller signs the back of the title, listing you as the new owner. Bring the signed title, current registration, proof of residence, ID, and payment to your local WSCE. The seller’s presence isn’t required if they’ve properly signed over the title.
