Tax Day 2017 Is Near

Published by Scott Hershman

April 18, 2017 – Tax Day is near. 2017 brings good news to those who tend to procrastinate doing their taxes. Typically, tax day is April 15, which is on a Saturday this year. Sunday is always off limits. Monday, the 18th, is Emancipation day, which is a holiday in Washington D.C. Therefore, in 2017 we have a few extra days to file those returns.

If April 18, 2017, is still too early for you to file your taxes, you can always file an extension on the IRS website. Extensions are free and you can file for one here. However, if you owe the IRS money, you will need to estimate how much you and pay on time. If you owe and do not pay on time, the IRS will force you to pay a penalty fee as well as interest. If you are expecting to receive a refund check, you are welcome to file an extension.
